Mary Pat Aardrup is the program coordinator for the Healthy Sustainable Homes program for the City of Fort Collins. Deborah Young is the Integrated Pest Management coordinator with the College of Agricultural Sciences at CSU.
12- 12:50 pm, Water Conservation – Reduce or Reuse?
Join us to learn more about water conservation and what you can do. We will review the City’s water supply, watershed impacts from the High Park fire, grey water updates and results from water use studies. The focus will be on action items that you can do to ensure wise use of water every day.
Michelle Finchum is representing the Water Conservation Team at Fort Collins Utilities. She has been working at Fort Collins Utilities for 12 years as an Outreach and Education Coordinator. She enjoys working with the public.

Learn about making informed and conscious decisions in your consumption. Join us for a journey into the complexities of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). Several practical case studies will be discussed.
Shannon Thomas, a recent graduate of Colorado College with a major in Environmental Science, and Emily Fish, a senior also majoring in Environmental Science at Colorado College, spent their summer as interns for CMMAP – Colorado State University’s Center for Multiscale Modeling of Atmospheric Processes. During their time there, they researched the complexities of Life Cycle Assessment in order to provide the community with information on making educated consumer choices.
1- 1:50 pm, Finding Sustainable Solutions to Mitigating West Nile Virus
The City of Fort Collins recently fogged the entire community with a Permethrin based insecticide, a known neurotoxin and carcinogen. This is the 5th time since 2003 that the City has sprayed, but the first time that committed resistance to future spraying has formed. This interactive workshop will explore the No Spray Fort Collins campaign and how you can make a difference.
Cheryl Distaso is a long-time progressive community activist. She’s worked as the coordinator of the Fort Collins Community Action Network for over ten years. Currently, she’s a student in the Master’s of Social Work program at Colorado State University.
3:30-4:30 pm, Earthship Construction and Living
The Earthship, a radical example of “biotecture,” seeks to build homes into the Earth, not just on it– using sustainable practices, recycled materials (like cans, bottles, and tires) plus solar and wind for power. Volunteers raise the impressive structures from decidedly unimpressive looking materials. The result is eco-living below, inside, and above ground.
