Saturday Schedule:
11-11:50 am, Graywater Reuse for Irrigation and Toilet Flushing
Legislation recently passed to allow graywater reuse in the state of Colorado.Larry Roesner and Sybil Sharvelle, Colorado State University will provide a summary of the benefits of graywater reuse including how much water can be saved. In addition, guidance will be provided on installation of a graywater reuse system for irrigation and/or toilet flushing.
Dr. Roesner has more than 40 years of experience in water resources and water quality engineering and management and presently holds the endowed Harold H. Short Chair of Urban Water Systems Infrastructure at Colorado State University.
Dr. Sybil Sharvelle is an Assistant Professor in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department with expertise in biological waste processing.
12 pm- 12:50 pm, Energy Efficiency and You
Interested in learning about how to increase energy efficiency in your life? Kate Gregory, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency wqill present on how paying attention to the products you buy, the tightness of your home, the type of mortgage you have (and more!) can all impact your energy use.
Kate Gregory is an ENERGY STAR Program Manager for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency focusing on energy efficiency in the built environment. Kate holds a Masters in Global Finance, Trade and Economic Integration from the University of Denver.
1 pm- 1:50 pm Green Building Basics and LEED 101
This session is designed for those less familiar with green building terminology and concepts. Patti Mason of the U.S. Green Building Council Colorado for an overview of the core components that go into the industry’s most widely used green building codes, rating systems, and programs. After this session, attendees will be able to: Describe the impacts buildings have on the environment; identify the key principles of a green building program; locate a LEED certified project in their community.
Patti is a LEED Accredited Professional. As Director of Advocacy, Ms. Mason is responsible for overseeing the successful implementation of USGBC Colorado’s education and advocacy programs as well the ongoing development of local USGBC Colorado Branches.
2 pm- 3:50 pm, Natural Building Options and Materials
Natural Building techniques often can be the greenest option, but still largely remain outside the mainstream. Brian Fuentes, Fuentesdesign LLC will cover sourcing materials, labor, products, installation and design.
Brian Fuentes, AIA, CPHC is a registered architect in the State of Colorado, a member of the AIA and a Certified Passive House Consultant with the Passive House Institute (PHI) in Germany and the Passive House Institute U.S. (PHIUS).
4 pm- 5:30 pm, Why Sustainable Design Starts with the Architecture
American Institute of Architects talks about “Why Sustainable Design Starts with the Architecture”.
Justin Clark Larson is the principal architect with Vaught Frye Larson Architects, Inc. in Fort Collins. Mr. Larson received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Environmental Design and his Master of Architecture Degree from Montana State University. Mr. Larson is the recipient of many awards for his work in architecture, including the National Council Architectural Registration Board’s 2008 “40 Under Forty” and the United States Green Building Council’s 2008 “People’s Choice” and “Architects’ Choice” awards.

Mark Fusco of Bison Innovative Products, will cover green roof design, implementation and feature numerous examples of green roofs in Colorado.
Mark Fusco, LEED AP, GRP works as a Green Roof Consultant/Architectural Sales for Bison Innovative Products and has comprehensive green roof construction and horticultural experience. Mark’s began his career as a Senior Horticulturist at Denver Botanic Gardens from 1997 – 2009.

How will local food really work? How and where will infrastructure be placed to capture 50, 60 or even 80% of the food requirements within any given “local” area? Quint Redmond of AgrinNETx LLC will discuss the next generation of farming.
